Our Gardens

A visit to The Fotheringham House affords guests the opportunity to stop and smell the roses - both figuratively and literally.

Tufts of lavender form a sweet-smelling hedge that frames the front walk on your approach and blend with peonies and roses along the picket fence and in the interior front gardens.

Flower beds that wrap around the veranda sport mixed perennials, including delphinium, purple coneflower, lamb's ear, silver mound, peonies, daisies, and dianthus, anchored by barberry, spirea, lilacs and rose of sharon. A total of 30 American climbing roses on the fence and 60 old garden roses ensure that sitting on the veranda or near the front fountain is truly a lovely experience.

A sun garden near the dining room porch includes iris, campanula, salvia, coral-bells and lamium. A shade garden under the spruce tree boasts hostas, bleeding heart, and astilbe. The rear landscaping includes a fountain and birdbath, arbors and a bee and butterfly garden hosting manarda, columbine, lupine, foxglove, and blue mist spirea.
